In general, rugs are very easy to care for. Light vacuuming is essential, but there is no need to over vacuum. Avoid using a beater brush every time you vacuum. The density of a fine rug will resist most soil, and surface vacuuming is generally all that is needed on a regular basis.

Most spills can be handled by blotting up the excess, and following up with cold water on a cloth. Blot and lift, do not rub or over saturate. If it is necessary to use get the rug more saturated to remove the spill, try to elevate the carpet and circulate air to dry the spot as quickly as possible.

Greasy spots can be tended to with a mild shampoo, followed with cold water. Avoid harsh detergents. Fine wool rugs have a natural soil repellency, and detergents may destroy or harm the natural oils of your carpet.

A good general rule would be that if you could put it on your hair, you would put it on your wool rug. You would never use a detergent on your hair. Likewise, treat your fine rug with care and it will treat you to years of pleasure.

Every few years ( 3-8 years depending on use) the rug should be professionally hand washed. Do not trust your rug to those fellows who go house to house cleaning wall to wall carpet. Wall to wall carpet is surface cleaned without a thorough rinse. Rugs can be physically removed from the home, and rinsed properly. The rinse is the secret. Just like hand washing a sweater, a fine rug will benefit from the extra effort of hand washing and hand rinsing. Be sure to have a rug specialist clean your fine rugs.
